Streghthening Rural Indigenous Women’s Rights on Enviromental Justice,Land Rights and Sustainable Livelihoods in Kenya and Tanzania

Indigenous Information Network with funding from the African Women’s Development Fund sought to carry out activities with women from different Pastoral areas in Kenya and Tanzania. These activities were to increase the knowledge the women had and also ensure that the women knew their rights. The activities were under the thematic areas of Economic security and justice: Protect full economic rights and justice for women, Leadership, Participation and Peace: Expand democratic space; sustain inclusive governance and equal political participation of women.
The objective of the program was to raise awareness among Indigenous Women on women’s rights, to empower indigenous women on their land rights, ownership and management and train indigenous women on practical skills on self-reliance and economic empowerment. Increase knowledge for the women, on skills that they can use practically and ensure that the women know their rights. The trainings were focused on Indigenous women in Kenya- (Melelo, Ngorgori, Ololoipangi and Olorkuto) and in Tanzania– (Enkigaret, Monduli, Euro-endege, Kimokowua, Kiserian , Engare Naibor and Longido.)
